Put your website on your hosting

Upload your files into public_html with cPanel's File Manager or FTP, or ask us to move an existing site for free.

Your website's files live in the folder public_html of your cPanel account. Anything you put there is served at your domain once the domain points at the server.

With File Manager (no software needed)

  1. Open the service in the client area, the Manage tab, and press Log in to cPanel.
  2. In cPanel open File Manager and go into public_html.
  3. Press Upload and choose your files. A zip archive can be uploaded and then unpacked with Extract (select it, then Extract) so the folder structure is kept.
  4. Make sure the site's start page is named index.html or index.php and sits directly in public_html, not in a sub-folder.

With FTP

  1. In cPanel open FTP Accounts and create an account, or use your cPanel username and password with the server's hostname (the Sign in at address without the port, or the Hostname on the Your server card).
  2. Connect with an FTP program (FileZilla or similar) using the hostname, the username and the password, and upload into public_html.

Moving an existing site

If the site is already running elsewhere on cPanel, do not upload by hand: we move it for free. See Move your website to us for free.

Checking the result

  • Point your domain at the hosting first: Point your domain at your hosting.
  • A blank page or a cPanel default page means the start page is missing or in the wrong folder.
  • A PHP site that needs a database: create it in cPanel's MySQL Database Wizard and put its name, user and password into the site's configuration.
