Transfer a domain to us

Unlock the domain at your current registrar, get its EPP code, place the transfer and pay its invoice; the transfer usually completes within five days and adds a year.

Before you start

At your current registrar:

  • make sure the domain is unlocked for transfer;
  • ask for its authorisation code (also called EPP or auth code);
  • make sure the owner email on the domain is one you can read, because the transfer may need approval there.

On our side, complete your Domain owner contact: the transfer is filed with those details.

Steps

  1. Open Domains → Register or transfer and, under Transfer a domain in, press Transfer a domain in….
  2. Enter the Domain and the Authorization (EPP) code (use Show to check it). The form reminds you: "Ask your current registrar for the authorization or EPP code, and make sure the domain is unlocked there. Transfers usually complete within five days."
  3. Tick the agreement box and press Confirm & get invoice. The text above the button says it: an invoice is created now; the transfer is submitted once it is paid, and a transfer normally adds a year to your registration.
  4. Pay the invoice by bank transfer (see Pay an invoice by bank transfer).

What happens next

  • Once we confirm the payment, the transfer is submitted to the registrar. The domain's page shows We are setting this up while it is in progress.
  • Your current registrar may email the domain's owner address to approve or decline the transfer. Approve it to speed things up; otherwise it usually completes by itself within about five days.
  • When it completes you get ‹domain› is registered, the domain appears under My domains, and a year is added to its expiry.

If the transfer has not completed after 14 days it is marked failed and the amount comes back as store credit, with the email We could not register ‹domain› — your payment is back in your account. Fix the cause (lock, wrong code, rejected approval) and order again.

Common problems

  • "That authorization code doesn't look right. Your current registrar can re-send it." Codes are case-sensitive; copy it exactly, or ask for a new one.
  • "‹domain› isn't registered anywhere, so there's nothing to transfer — you can register it instead."
  • "Transfers aren't enabled for that domain here yet — open a support ticket and we'll do it for you." That ending cannot be transferred online here.
  • The domain was registered or changed owner in the last 60 days. Registries block transfers for 60 days after a registration or an owner change; wait, then try again.
