A domain registered with us points wherever its nameservers say. To use it with your hosting, set the hosting's nameservers on the domain.

Which nameservers

For hosting with us, they are on your hosting service's page: Overview → Your server → Nameservers. See Point your domain at your hosting. For hosting elsewhere, your host tells you theirs.

Steps

  1. Open Domains → My domains and press Manage on the domain.
  2. Open the DNS tab. Under Nameservers ("where this domain points") you see the current ones.
  3. Enter the new ones in Nameserver 1 and Nameserver 2. For a third or more, press + Add another (up to six). Leave a box empty to remove that nameserver; two are required.
  4. Press Save nameservers. The page confirms Saved. DNS changes can take up to a few hours to reach everyone.

What happens next

The registrar publishes the new nameservers. DNS resolvers around the internet pick the change up over the following hours (occasionally up to a day). During that time some visitors reach the old place and others the new one.

Common problems

  • "We could not confirm the change with the registrar. It may still apply — check back shortly before trying again." The registrar did not answer in time. Reload after a few minutes; do not keep resubmitting.
  • "Nameservers can only be changed while the domain is active." The domain is still being registered, is suspended, or has expired. Wait for registration to finish, or see Renew a domain, auto-renew and expiry.
  • Many domains to point at the same place. Use the bulk form: Point several domains at once.

DNS records (A, MX, TXT…)

Records are managed wherever the nameservers point: for our hosting, in cPanel's Zone Editor; for another DNS provider, in their panel. The client area does not provide a DNS record editor for your domain at the moment.
