A domain is registered in your own name, for one year, once its invoice is paid and our team has confirmed the bank transfer. The whole flow is below.
Before you start: the Domain owner contact
The registrar files a name, email, phone and postal address as the domain's owner. We take them from your Domain owner contact under Settings → Contacts: it needs a name, a confirmed email, a phone number and a postal address with its postcode. Without them the order is refused with a message telling you so. See The Domain owner contact.
Steps
- In the client area open Domains → Register or transfer. (From our website's domain search, Register brings you to the same page with the name filled in.)
- Under Register a new domain, type a full name like
example.com, or a keyword likemyshopto see it with the endings we register, and press Search. - Each result shows Available, Taken, Premium, Not offered or Unconfirmed, with the price "/ 1 yr" for names you can register. Prices are for one year; VAT is added at checkout where it applies. The endings we sell and their prices are on our website's Domain prices page.
- Press Register… on the name you want. The box reads Register ‹domain› for 1 year — ‹price›? and explains that an invoice is created now and the domain is submitted to the registrar once it is paid; availability and the price are re-checked at order time.
- Tick I agree to the Terms of Service, Refund & Cancellation Policy and Domain Registration Agreement. and press Confirm & get invoice.
- You are taken to the invoice. Pay it by bank transfer: see Pay an invoice by bank transfer.
What happens next
- Our team confirms the transfer, usually within one business day of the money arriving.
- The domain is then submitted to the registrar. Its page shows We are setting this up until the registrar confirms; you get the email ‹domain› is registered.
- The domain appears under My domains with Renews ‹date› and the badge Running. Its Billing card shows Domain expires once the registrar has reported the date.
- Point it at your hosting: Point your domain at your hosting or server.
If registration fails (for example the name was taken in the meantime), the full amount comes back as store credit and you get We could not register ‹domain› — your payment is back in your account.
Good to know
- Registration is for one year; renewal invoices follow each year. See Renew a domain, auto-renew and expiry.
- A domain registration, once made, is never refunded.
- Some endings need extra registrant details that we do not collect yet (for example .us, .ca, .uk, .eu, .de, .au); those are refused at order time. The search shows what can be registered online here; for anything else, open a ticket.
- .bd domains follow a different process: see Register a .bd domain.
- Privacy protection is a paid add-on. Where the ending allows it, tick it when you register, or add it later from the domain's page; it is priced per year and renews with the domain. What the public sees about you: WHOIS, and what the public can see.
Common problems
- "Before you register a domain, complete your registrant details in Settings → Contacts…" Complete the Domain owner contact, including confirming its email, then order again.
- "The price of ‹domain› has changed — the current price is in the results above." Search again and order at the new price.
- "‹domain› was taken in the meantime — try another name." Someone registered it first.
- "Online domain registration isn't enabled here yet — open a support ticket and we'll register it for you." That ending is not sold online; we can register it by hand.
